Driver Spotlight: Rich Walton
A National Truck Driving Champion logs 2 million miles
With more than three decades of professional driving under his seatbelt, Rich Walton never stops learning. As a New Penn career driver, Walton said his quest for learning experiences sharpens his driving expertise.
As one of New Penn’s best drivers, Walton has competed in numerous state and national truck driving championships.
Walton, who has participated in truck driving competitions since 1985, said it’s his drive for safety.
“I compete to improve my driving skills, keep up with industry, and make friendships with drivers from other companies,” said Walton. “The competitions make me a better driver. I think of my family, and I want everybody to be safer.”
Walton’s driven passion for safety hallmarks the careers at New Penn. Drivers who are employed by New Penn represent a company that is an industry leader.
“Working and driving safely every day takes practice, determination and focus,” said Steve Gast, New Penn president. “Competing at driving championships requires that same level of concentration.”
Walton has won state and national championships, including the twin-trailers division. To qualify for state and national competitions, a driver must be accident free for 12 months prior.
